The Faculty of Dentistry at RSU is one of the oldest faculties and the Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1919, as part of the University of Latvia. In 1950 the Faculty of Medicine was separated from the University of Latvia and Riga Medical Institute was founded as an independent institution of higher education with the university as its base.
