New Vision University is a university in Georgia that offers a medical degree programme in English. This university has been heavily promoted by certain agencies and as a result, has become a popular option to study medicine abroad. The university has used various marketing strategies such as offering the degree partially online or claiming that you can study in the UK for a lengthy period.
Unfortunately for students that are serious about studying medicine, it should be noted that taking shortcuts or becoming enticed by offers that are too good to be true will not end well. You should always study at an institution that is credible and offers a medical course that is legitimate.
On the 28th of March 2021, we found out that New Vision University was placed on the list of universities the GMC “may” accept. The list can be found here.
The reason for being on this list is mentioned on the page itself as it says:
“There are a number of reasons why we may add a medical institution to this list. For example, where we have information that:
– The medical school offers courses that lead to qualifications that do not meet the criteria alongside some courses that do.”

However, we still wanted to get to the bottom of why New Vision University has been placed on this list. Other agencies have tried to deceive students by claiming that being on this list in fact a good thing and the first step towards being fully recognised, which is not the case at all.
In response to a Freedom of Information Request, the GMC has told us:
“New Vision University was placed on this list because, following receipt of their Medical School Qualification Review form (MSQR1), it was found that a student could potentially graduate from this institution after completing a number of hours that falls below the minimum number of hours specified in our acceptable overseas qualification criteria.
When an institution is on this list it means that we will carry out an individual assessment of each applicant that has qualified from that institution. Our assessment is carried out against the acceptable overseas qualification criteria which is published on our website.”

In late 2022, it was also found that New Vision University was also added to GMCs “Overseas medical qualifications we do not accept” list and is the only institution from Georgia to be placed on this list.
