Plovdiv Medical University Open Day: 25 November 2026 for 2027 Entry

On Wednesday 25 November 2026, the Medical University of Plovdiv opens its campus to international applicants for its English-taught programmes. We’ve been sending students to Plovdiv since 2018 and our Bulgarian office is in the city, so our advice is simple. If Plovdiv is on your list for 2027 entry, the Plovdiv Medical University open day will tell you more in one morning than any prospectus.

Register in advance, bring a parent if you can, and arrive with your questions ready.

At a glance

  • Date: Wednesday 25 November 2026

Why a visit beats a prospectus

A prospectus tells you the fees. A visit tells you whether you can picture six years here.

You’ll see where you’d study, hear how the course really runs and judge the feel of the place for yourself. No brochure covers that.

What happens at the Plovdiv Medical University open day

The day runs in person on Plovdiv’s campus, and it’s built around three things:

  • The campus and facilities. You’ll tour the modern campus you’d study on for the next six years and see the international student community you’d be joining.
  • Lecturers and current students. You’ll meet both, so you hear how the course is structured from the people who teach it and what student life is like from the people living it.
  • Your admissions questions. Bring targeted questions on the application procedure and the course structure, and get them answered on the spot.

Parents and guardians are welcome, with time to cover finances, student support, safety and the quality of teaching.

Book flights once your registration confirmation arrives with the start time and meeting point. Full details are in Plovdiv’s open day announcement.

Who should go

We recommend the day to three groups:

  • Year 13 students aiming for September 2027, and Year 12 students looking ahead to 2028, who are deciding between Plovdiv and other Bulgarian universities
  • Students who missed out on a UK offer and are now studying medicine without the UCAT as their route in
  • Parents who want to see where their child would live and train before committing to six years abroad

If you’re still choosing a country, start with our guide to studying medicine in Bulgaria, then come back to Plovdiv once it’s on your shortlist.

Why Plovdiv is worth a look

Plovdiv is a state medical university with a large international intake. Since 2023, more than 60% of students in its Faculty of Medicine have been international, so you won’t be the only one arriving from abroad.

It teaches four regulated degrees in English. These are the programmes and first-year fees for 2026/27:

ProgrammeDegreeLengthFirst-year tuition (2026/27)
MedicineMaster’s6 years€10,000
Dental MedicineMaster’s5 years plus a 9-month internship€10,000
PharmacyMaster’s5 years€6,200
NursingBachelor’s4 years€4,500

Budget separately for accommodation, health insurance and textbooks, which tuition doesn’t cover. To see how Plovdiv compares on cost, read our list of the cheapest medical schools in Europe taught in English.

Entry to Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy is by entrance exams in Biology and Chemistry, plus an English test at B1 level or above. Nursing admits on school grades. In 2026 Plovdiv ran six exam sittings between April and September. Bulgarian classes are compulsory in the first two years, because you’ll be speaking with patients from Year 3.

Questions to ask on the day

The students who get the most from the Plovdiv Medical University open day arrive with these ready:

  1. When are the 2027 entrance exam dates, and how is the final ranking score calculated?
  2. How do tuition fees change after the first year?
  3. How many English-taught places are there on my programme?
  4. Where do clinical placements take place, and when does patient contact begin?
  5. What support is there for learning Bulgarian?
  6. What accommodation is available, and how early should first-year students arrange it?

If you’re planning a UK career afterwards, ask about the internship structure too and read our guide on whether European medical degrees count in the UK.
